It’s time for our August Women in Games Boston meetup! This month, Liz Surette will be speaking about legal issues in game development.
Law and Game Development: Protecting Your Assets and Staying Out of Trouble
From Lindsay Lohan to Phil Fish and many in between, the game industry is no stranger to lawsuits and controversies. Yet, underlying these and other high-profile stories are legal concepts that every game developer can and should use to protect themselves and their games. In this talk, Liz will present an essential overview of the laws that affect game development and studios. She will also share some practical ways to prevent disputes and safeguard your intellectual property using contracts, business entities, trademarks, copyrights, and other legal tools.
Liz is an attorney and the founder of Overclocked Legal, a Massachusetts law firm that works with game developers and clients in other creative fields. In addition to being a longtime community member, she has spoken on video game law at PAX East, the American Bar Association’s Business Law conference, and Boston Indies. Her writing has been featured on Gamepolitics.com and GamesLaw.net.
